Mechanical movements and their distinctive features

Mechanical movements have several distinctive features. Mechanical movements are not as accurate as quartz movements due to their construction. Deviations up to 30 seconds a day have to be expected. For example, extreme temperature fluctuations can restrict the accuracy of mechanical watches since the stress state of the spring depends on the temperature. Among other aspects, the accuracy as well as the power reserve of an automatic watch is influenced by the way the watch is worn. Is the watch not sufficiently moved while being worn, it has to be wound by hand as well in order to guarantee enough power reserve and accuracy.
